100 Years of intependence

On Wednesday, December 6th, Finland celebrates the 100th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence, which made the country free, but it is a freedom that has been fought more than many others in the world. Three wars. Incomprehensibly bloody in comparison with the peace Sweden at the same time held.l

Then came the winter war 1939-40 when the Soviet Union attacked from the east. With Mannerheim in the lead, the small country in the north could stand against the Russian bear until it had to end peace and lose Karelia.

The continuation war 1941-44 was about recovering lost land when Nazi invasion invaded the Soviet under the code name Barbarossa. When Germany was pushed back, Finland closed separate peace. Back under the leadership of Mannerheim, now as the president of the Republic.
